As I wrote before, I was fired (“terminated,” isn’t that nicer?) for suggesting a caller go to an open, veterinarian-staffed ER, rather than come to our facility, where doctors weren’t scheduled for an hour. Unemployment put my benefits on hold, until they determined that I did that “by mistake”, (that mistake being: I wanted the dog to live), and not out of maliciousness.
One month plus one day after I was fired, the Unemployment office did make that determination, and I received my first benefits 2 weeks ago, and my second today.
I’m still concerned — I had a bill to pay all ready, I will have to pay nearly $450 in taxes in 12 days, plus I need to purchase my auto license sticker ($108 and card fees) before the end of the month, and the next 6 months of insurance, ($253), due at the end of April/start of May. And then, gasoline, which is only going up. My benefits will cover the majority of that, but I don’t get paid frequently enough to keep everything going, so if anyone can help out with any part(s) of those charges, I would really appreciate it. Now the bad news, family-wise. My dad has been gradually showing signs of Alzheimers, plus he had swollen legs and sores on his legs and feet that were not healing… so his cancer doctor gave him steroids. Now, I remember from when Danny had his ATM, that steroids mess with emotions — and holy shit, have they screwed up my Dad. Yesterday he was taken to the hospital by police after he had a fight with his wife, tried to take their car and then her daughter’s car, and then tried to start a fight with the police.
Now, my dad isn’t the most even tempered guy, but mostly he is a swear-er. One time he got really mad at some car engine or another, and he punched his fist through paneling downstairs. Which he then had to fix. This is nothing like him.
So, he’s in the hospital (in Arizona), and my sister and I are still in Illinois, trying to keep up and offer what little support we can. My sister keeps telling Dad’s wife that I (sheddhead) can come out there and help, since I’m between jobs. I have NO idea how I could possibly do that before dealing with the issues above, but… we’ll see.
Now for the good news. I have been added to the county wait list for section 8 housing vouchers! I applied on March 5, and received my email a couple of days ago, telling me I’m on the list. When I get to the top, they will be sending me something through the mail — to my sister’s house. She’s all ready looking for that mail! Fingers crossed!
