On Sept 12, a past student of mine (in K9 Nosework) got in touch about a possible job opening at her place of business. I scrolled through the information she provided and emailed my resume to her. She shared it with the hiring manager, who confirmed I had the necessary skill sets, and I was sent the direct link to apply for the job. I applied before I left the library that day.
I’ve been keeping in touch with my friend every 5 to 7 days or so because she mentioned that their HR group is pretty useless. She told me more than once not to worry, that any issues were on the side of the HR department. Finally last week I received an email from someone in HR and after a couple of messages back and forth, we arranged for a first interview via phone this past Tuesday.
Now, Monday and Tuesday I was working with people from HomeDuPage — a group that works with people to get them in their own homes. They offer (really good) financial classes — I wanted a free budgeting class, and they offered that. After you take a couple of classes, they set you up with a certified financial counselor.
By the way: Does anyone know of an easy to use (Android) app that is based on envelopes? I’ve been trying Goodbudget, but it’s freaking confusing. I entered two items that had goals of 2000, one that lasts 20 months ($100 a month), one that lasts about 6 months (333.33) a month, and they both show a current amount due for the month of $167. I feel like if I provide a little more information, I should be able to have numbers displaying that make sense to me.
Please note — those numbers are based on my getting a job soon, and that budget won’t start until I have an income (and will be adjusted for that income amount.)
The people at HomeDuPage put me in an empty office and let me take my phone call there. I had really prepped for the call. I had taken the information I’d simply scanned through and created a Word Document that also included information about specific Excel functions that were mentioned in the job description. With that Excel info, it went out to 6 pages. She didn’t go into that much detail on the Excel, lol!!
She asked me about knowing Deb, and we discussed the job. I explained my history of related job functions, and then said, “You know, when I printed out the job description and read it carefully, I got so excited! This is THE job! I love learning new things, figuring out ways to make things work faster and more effectively, and testing.
She was as positive as I was and said she’d pass my information on to the hiring manager (who has already seen my resume.) She said I should hear soon whether they want to have a second phone interview (as they do normally), or an interview at the site. I’m still waiting for that update (after sending her a thank you email.)
I am so excited about this job!!! I need it but based on what I’ve read about it and the little I’ve heard, I would LOVE it. It’s also located in the town I’d like to live in. It is a bit of a drive from some of the churches we stay at in PADS, but WAY WAY WAY closer than the veterinarian where I answered phones. The church that is farthest from the site is Friday night, at about 20 miles — the others range anywhere from a little to much, much closer.
Besides trying to come up with a future budget, I am also trying to get ready for an interview and (hopefully) employment. I got fitted for new glasses today under the Lenscrafters “One Sight” (used to be the “Gift of Sight”) program. My current glasses are probably a decade old, and not only have my eyes gotten worse, but there was also something put on the lenses that is now all crackle-y!
If anyone can help me get through part of the next few weeks, I would be most appreciative. To keep my auto insurance rate, I need to pay 6 months' worth — it totals $212, but I have about half of that already. Gas is costing about $50 a week, usually a little above, today a nice amount below. If I could get help with a couple of nice tops for an interview and (hopefully) workdays, I should easily be able to get through to my first check. Or, if I don’t get that job (sniff!), I’ll be in much better shape to apply at other locations. If you can help, my email is connected to my Paypal:

Thank you for your consideration — and please — cross your fingers, knock on wood, or pray to any and all deities you hold dear. I haven’t felt so close to getting out of PADS in a long, long, long time.
NOTE!!! If I get the job I intend to spend several months (maybe 6 months or more), so I can save money. I don’t want anyone to think I plan to move out next week… Just knowing I COULD go, but I am saving toward something awesome should keep me going for a while!
Can you tell? I need this job.
